Evolution Excercise
Lately I’ve been working on several excercises to help bring my design back to the basics of simple, clean message delivery. I’m not sure I’ve reached it with this poster, which is still a work in progess but I’ve tried to keep my elements to a minimum and use large blocks of color for attractive impact. Also, the funky South American style font adds to the whimsical nature of the piece.
By now you may have noticed some themes in our work and one of them is definitely evolution. It’s a cornerstone of our craft and essential in this age of rapid trend changes and daily exposure to the varied cultures of our ever shrinking world.
You can see the blown-up version in the posters gallery.
Inspiration
Allen Wiebe - Woodcarver
I put this video together for my brother who is a woodcarver here in Calgary. It shows various angles of one of his latest pieces.

I’ve really been enjoying the lettering style and skill of South American sign painters. They just have that warm, friendly casual appeal that has been developed over centuries and is still favored over more “mechanical” means of sign painting.
